Get the Look: Camilla Belle at the Coach Charity Cocktail Party

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

As expected, the stars looked beautiful at last week's Coach charity cocktail party/shopping event which benefitting the Children's Defense Fund.  Our pal and go-to celeb makeup artist Brett Freedman helped Camilla Belle glow, playing up her lashes to match the flirt factor of her silver Victoria Beckham cocktail dress.  Here's the lowdown:

FACE
Base:
Make Up Forever HD. Love the velvety texture of this foundation. I swept a touch down her neck too for the most even, flawless finish.
Concealer: Cle de Peau in Beige.
Powder: Shu Uemura loose powder. I used this sheer finish powder to set the makeup a touch. I planned to use bronzing powder to warm up the skin so this was used to make sure the bronzer didn’t “grab” on the skin.
Bronzer: Guerlain. Love this bronzing powder's very fleshy tan look. Low on the sparkle so it catches light but doesn't make the face look too shiny or dewy. Important for the cameras!

CHEEKS
Blush:
NARS Super Orgasm powder. I wanted a warm, apricot-y tone and this classic always delivers. I swept on the apples of Camilla's cheeks and upward toward her temples. The golden shimmer gives cheeks a dewy look radiance.

EYES
Brows:
Vanitymark Ultra-Brow Powder in Dark Choco. I was feeling inspired by Liz Taylor, so I gave Camilla's brows a very defined, crisp finish.
Eye shadows: I used only three shadows on Camilla's eyes. You couldn’t see the full effect until she blinked but I did the outer corners of her lids in a super vivid blue – cute!
  • Lid/tear duct: MAC Idol Eyes: I used this shimmery pewter shade on lid, tear duct and bottom lash line.
  • Outer corner: MAC Electric Eel. Super vivid. I used a tiny bit on her outer corner and blended toward the middle of the lid. I then swept a touch on the bottom outer corner of the lash line. I like that the lashes are the center of focus, but when she looks down or blinks there's a flash of indigo!
  • Highlighter: MAC Nylon. I used a very little amount and brightened her brow bone with this champagne shimmer.
Mascara: Fresh Supernova. This mascara is fast becoming a fave. Super black shade and the ultimate in lash thickening. If you haven't tried it, definitely grab some. You'll love it! I curled Camilla's lashes then she patiently sat through a whopping six coats of mascara on her top and bottom lashes!  I also mixed in a few individual lashes on the outer corners for the ultimate tangle. I used a few directional sweeps of mascara to 'marry' her lashes with the faux ones and gave a quick pump with the Shu curler after all was dry to align and plump all the lashes up a touch.

LIPS
Lips:
Elizabeth Arden Honey Pink Pearl.  I wanted something with a touch of warm pink and with an opal finish to mimic the glow on the cheeks.

BODY
Bronzer and Shimmer:
To give Camilla's body a soft, warm lift of color I used LORAC's TANtalizer lotion and then iced it with a little extra shimmer from Vanitymark's Shimmerskin spray.

Eyes that Pop Courtesy Brett Freedman

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

Along with endless shopping sprees and bills that are somehow paid without draining our bank accounts, we all want eyes that stand out.  While the first two aren't always attainable, the latter of the three we can help you with.  Well, Brett Freedman, celeb make artist to stars like Candice Accola (shown), Vanessa Hudgens, Camilla Belle, Sienna Miller, Reba McEntire and Catherine Zeta Jones can.  Here are his tips for making your baby blues (or browns...or greens) pop:

EYESHADOW – According to Brett, the key to making eyeshadow stand out (and stay put!) is dampening your brush! Using a damp brush will turn your favorite cake eyeshadow into a cream/stain consistency.

EYELINER – Brett loves liquid liner for its durability, and the Shiseido felt tip liner, applied very close the lash line, is really resistant to wear. Blend with a damp brush and matching matte eyeshadow to add softness and keep the long-wear vibe.

LASHES – Consider tinting your lashes (at home or in a salon) every few weeks to add vividness with or without mascara.  This is a great trick for gals with fair lashes! If you have a big event coming up, or just like your lashes to look perky and flirty at all times, consider a semi-permanent mascara like CryBaby Mascara – not as drastic as extensions, this is like a fabulous mascara that lasts for 2-3 weeks AND is waterproof and smudge-proof. A quality waterproof mascara is always good to keep in your beauty arsenal, and Brett loves Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Smoky Lash Mascara

Cocktails Fit for a Queen

Friday, April 15, 2011

Have the royal wedding on your mind?  Celebrate the nuptials (or, celebrate Friday!) with a distinct British spirit, Bombay Sapphire Gin!  Its natural elegance and timeless sophistication make it a perfect option for any of your upcoming events or parties.  Ten unique botanicals from around the world are blended for a flavor not comparable to other options on the market.  The London Dry Gin compliments a wide variety of mixed cocktails fit for Queen Victoria herself who graces the Bombay bottle.

Celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday month of May with The Queen's Bouquet:

1.5oz Bombay Sapphire
4 mint leaves
3 myrtle leaves
4 blackberries
1/2 oz honey syrup
Muddle all and build/stir through with cranked ice in a stemmed rocks glass.  Garnish with a blackberry and sprig of myrtle.

For something a bit more princely, try The Windsor Tonic:

1.5oz Bombay Sapphire
1/2oz Martini and Rossi ROSSO
3 freshly cut slices of orange
Top with Fentimans Tonic Water
Build all with ice and garnish with an orange twist.

For anyone with ring envy over Kate Middleton's sapphire stunner, Bombay's Royal Sapphire serves as a soothing substitute:

1oz Bombay Sapphire
1/2oz elderflower cordial or liqueuor
1/2 oz lemon juice
4 mint leaves
Shake all, double strain and serve in a champagne flute.  Top with Martini Prosecco/Champagne.  Garnish with an edible flower.

Brett Freedman's Summertime Makeup Tips

Thursday, April 14, 2011

No time for the video?  Below are the cliff notes:

According to Brett, the key traits of summer beauty products are: breathable coverage, SPF, long-wearing formulas, and warm, peachy shades.  And what are the must-have products he loves?

Jemma Kidd School Light As Air liquid foundation, SPF 18 - This foundation feels like a tinted moisturizer but with a touch more coverage.  It's a breathable formula, but really stays put - perfect for those hot summer days!

Clinique City Block Sheer Oil-Free Daily Face Protector, SPF 25 - Perfect for layering under makeup, this sheer physical sunblock reflects the rays off the skin, and is oil-free.  Great for active gals that like to be outdoors a lot!

Benefit Cha Cha Tint - This new mango/apricot version of Benetint (launching in June) is great for ladies who aren't a fan of pinky lip and cheek stains.  The new shade goes great with bronzey summer skin and has the long wear that Benetint is known for!

Bonnie Bell Gel Bronze - This cheapie drugstore bronzer can be worn alone on good skin days, or for a warm glow everyday, add a bit to your foundation and apply together!  Brett recommends the golden shade - it's the most universally flattering.

Stars Party at the Conde Nast Hot List Party Sponsored by Bombay Sapphire

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

West Hollywood was rockin' Monday night April 11th at the Conde Nast Hot List Party and celebs toasted to all things "Hot" with cocktails from sponsor Bombay Sapphire.

A little injury didn't keep Dancing with the Stars stunner and model Petra Nemcova down while at the Soho House West Hollywood.  Surrounded by revelers and admirerers, with a wrapped ankle  due to a quickstep dancing injury, she rocked sky-high heels and danced all night long to music spun by DJ Cassidy.

Also in attendance were Emma Stone (in a Preen beaded dress and Christian Louboutin slingbacks), Matthew Rhys, Brooklyn Decker (showing some leg in a navy Diane von Furstenberg lace dress and Manolo Blahnik shoes), Stephanie March, Vanessa Hudgens (who looked amazing in a Mimi Plange Suit and Casadei heels), Sophia Vergara (in Dolce and Gabbana) and James Marsden.

Tried and Loved: Maybelline COLORsensational® Lipstain

Wednesday, April 6, 2011

As much as I like saying "I'm unique, different and a complete individual," it doesn't always ring true.  I'm a typical girl when it comes to makeup!  I love it.  And since I first dotted Benefit's Benetint on my lips and cheeks, I've also loved lipstain.  With that being said however, Benetint was the only one I had purchased...until yesterday.

I was shopping for for a few food items and somehow wandered to the makeup aisle and right into Maybelline's COLORsensational® section.  Debating on the shades and pondering if I was actuallly considering cheating on my original, I ripped the proverbial band aid and selected the Lipstain in Blushing, a sheer wash of mauve-y pink (shown).

The result?  Fabulous!  Just a touch darker than I anticipated I'm still thrilled with the look.  And because it is completely different than my Benetint I don't really even feel like I'm cheating.

What you'll love?

-The marker like applicator makes for precise and easy application.
-The barely there color...you know you have something on, but it's not caked on, it's natural.
-It lasts forever...or at least a good portion of the day!
-Their formula is vitamin-enriched berry nectar.

At just $5, you really can't go wrong!  My favorite way to apply - on dry, clean lips, then dot over with my favorite balm - Smith's Rosebud Salve.  Absolute perfection!
