I Whish™ I May, I Whish™ I Might, Relieve this Itch I Feel Tonight!

Monday, January 30, 2012

Whish Sugar ScrubI’ve been blogging for awhile now and there’s one thing I’m fairly certain you’ve never read a review on: body scrubs.  It’s not that I never use them (although it’s rare) or haven’t been given my fair share, they just aren’t a priority for me.  They all feel the same when I use them.

So here it is, my very first post on a body scrub, which means this particular product is something I really loved or really hated.  Drumroll please……..I L-O-V-E LOVE Three Whishes Sugar Scrub from Whish™.

What’s led me to this infatuation?  My current dilemma, which inevitably happens each winter, is not only dry skin, but - Ca-razy.  Itchy.  Skin.  And not the type of itch that goes away after you’ve scratched it.  It’s the famous “itch-that-can’t-be-scratched.”  Actually it can, it just doesn’t help.  It’s constant and although I’ve slathered on every product in an attempt to combat it, the relief is very temporary – maybe an hour at the most.

So Saturday when I tried Three Whishes, I wasn’t thinking it was going to help with my dry skin (even though that’s what it says it does…but how many products actually do what they say???).   Would it exfoliate?  Sure.  Did I like the smell (almond)?  Yes.  And that’s as far as I thought this little affair would go.

Imagine my surprise, when, you may need to sit down, it not only exfoliated and smelled pretty, but it actually moisturized – and left me itch-free the rest of the day.

So what exactly makes Whish different?  Instead of exfoliating and stripping the skin of precious moisture, how does it exfoliate and replenish it?  While I might not know the science behind it all, I think the all natural and organic ingredients it’s made from helps.  Exfoliating with Bamboo Powder, Raspberry Seed, Brown Sugar and Organic Sugar Cane.  Moisturizing with Organic Shea Butter, Organic Aloe and Organic Raspberry Butter.  Renewing with Vitamin E and Organic Avocado Oil.  Not only that, it’s free from from Sulfates, Paraben, Petrochemical, TEA and DEA.

I’m not exactly sure when “love affair” turns into obsession, but I think I’m on my way.  And in this case, I couldn’t feel better about it!

View or shop the entire fabulous Whish™ line at WhishBody.com and some of your favorite stores, including Nordstrom and Kidston.  Three Whishes Sugar Scrub is available in Almond, Lavender, Lemongrass, and Pomegranate and retails for $38.  Made in the USA!

Update your Boots with CovFurs

Friday, January 27, 2012

Tan Zebra CofurWe love our snow boots – you know the ones: flat, round toe, warm and fuzzy on the inside, the kind that you have, your friends have, your neighbors have.  Regardless of who has them, we still love them.  Why?  Number one, they’re cute and also because they keep our feet warm and the snow out…exactly the reason we have them.  I do admit though - I wish mine were just a little different than everyone else’s.  Which is why I love the CovFurs concept: a faux fur slipcover for you boots in different patterns, colors, etc.  Genious!  Shown are the Tan Zebra ($39.99).

So Long Salt Stains - Tips to Save your Stilettos!

Kelsi Dagger Suede BootiesIt’s rare you’ll ever hear me compliment winter and it’s crazy weather, but there is one thing I do love about the season.  The clothes!  The boots, the sweaters…a casual snuggly form of dressing I can only get away with during these months.  However, living in the Midwest I know with the cold comes the snow and with the snow, inevitably comes the salt.  Ick.  All over those treasured winter shoes.

Which leads me to my past weekend activity: ridding my season’s favorite Kelsi Dagger suede booties of the salt-stains they had accumulated during our most recent snow-storm.  Having not found any success in my past ventures, I took to Google for my own little investigation.  The concoction I ended up with was a hodge-podge of borrowed home recipes and exactly what my boots needed:

What you need:

Toothbrush (soft)
Vinegar (ummm, yeah, I don’t measure but I would say a few tablespoons in the bottom of a small plastic container).
Warm Water (mixed with the vinegar) and for rinsing

Wetting my toothbrush in running water I lightly brushed the salt.  Then dipping my brush in the vinegar/water mixture I lightly scrubbed each of the stains.  Finally, again with the clean water I went over each section one last time.  The outcome?  Muy beuno!  Although, after drying I was able to see a few spots I had either missed or needed a second time around.

Ahhhh, pretty shoes with no need to buy anything special.  Is there anything better?

The Golden Globes aren’t just about the awards (Awards?  There were awards?  I thought it was all about the fashion!).  There are also the parties – both pre and post.  What better way to celebrate the Globes, and Awards Season in general, than with a Beauty Lounge from InStyle, at the swank Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills, held both January 13th and 14th.

With a guest list that included the likes of Malin Akerman (Rock of Ages) and Globe nominee Elizabeth McGovern (Downtown Abbey).  The stars were pampered and primped in the InStyle Beauty Lounge featuring complimentary hair and makeup touchups by L’Oréal Paris and mini manicures by OPI.  Kim Crawford hosted a wine bar featuring a Sauvignon Blanc and Unoaked Chardonnay – both from Marlborough, New Zealand.  A smartwater® bar kept guests hydrated.

Inside Beauty Scoop from the Golden Globes

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

The Golden Globe Red Carpet blew people away this year.  Yes, the dresses were phe-nom.  But as we all know it’s not just about the dress – a “10” gown can only go so far if your hair and makeup are sub-par.  24-7 Style was fortunate to hear from three beauty experts about why the below celebs looked so good, and offer their advice on how we mere-mortals can get the looks ourselves.

Charlize TheronSparkle With A Soft, Romantic Up-Do

Charlize Theron had heads turning on the red carpet in a pale pink Dior Couture gown. She accessorized the gorgeous dress with a dazzling platinum and diamond headband which added the finishing touches to her soft up-do. Get her look with these easy to follow tips from celebrity hairstylist and Creative Director of the Chris Chase Salon in Chelsea, Paul Cucinello.

First, prep damp hair with a light weight blow dry cream (such as Shu Uemura Satin Design) and a volumizing spray (such as Oribe Maximista) focused at the roots. Then, create a deep side part and blast hair dry using your fingers. Next, use a medium sized curling iron on large sections to create soft waves throughout the hair.  Gather the hair over to one side and loop it around your fingers directing it forward to create a small chignon. Be sure to secure with hair pins that math your hair color. Spray hair with a light mist of workable spray like Sebastian Re-Shaper. Add your accessory and using your fingers gently, rough up a couple of pieces to keep it looking a bit lived-in.

Jessica AlbaMake A Statement With Understated Makeup

Jessica Alba looked radiant with her glowing skin and flawless makeup. Celebrity makeup artist and creator of the beautyblender, Rea Ann Silva weighs in on how to achieve her soft and subtle look.

First, apply a moisturizing tint for instantly gorgeous skin. I love Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint for its coverage, texture and incredible skin care benefits. Apply with the round base of beautyblender on the larger areas of your face such as your forehead, cheeks and chin. To further enhance your glow, add a highlighter such as BeautyADDICTS GlimmerSHEERS to your cheek bones to really accentuate them.  Infused with Jojoba Oil, it will leave your skin looking and feeling radiant and healthy. Complete the look with the ultimate beauty secret weapon, mascara!

MadonnaGet Picture Perfect Skin

Ever wonder why certain celebrities such as Madonna seem to dodge having to deal with fine lines and wrinkles as they age? Dr. Bruce Katz of the JUVA Skin & Laser Center in NYC reveals the inside scoop with some of the latest quick fixes in Hollywood.

One of the most buzzed about new treatments that can provide a quick fix with no downtime and no recovery is the ALMA Laser Pixel Q-Switch. This non-ablative laser fights the appearance of fine lines, rough skin & redness beneath the overlaying epidermis. Not only does it boast the remarkable results we expect from laser resurfacing, but it totally eliminates pain and recovery while being much more affordable.

Another red carpet-ready treatment that celebs love is the newest alternative to Botox to fight glabellar lines. Xeomin is a purer form of Botox that doesn’t contain any complex proteins and leaves less of a chance for adverse effects in patients.

Fat Joe Joins the Fight Against Childhood Obesity with a Concert for Let’s Move! Newark: Our Power

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

New York, NY (January 10, 2011)- On January 23rd, hip-hop legend and weight loss advocate, Fat Joe, will perform at an event celebrating the winners fromLet's Move! Newark: Our Power (LM!NOP), a program created by Behavioral Health & Fitness Expert, Jeff Halevy, to fight childhood obesity. After improving his lifestyle, Fat Joe has recently lost over 100 pounds and has chosen to be a part of Let's Move! Newark Our Power to encourage our youth to follow his success.

Jeff Halevy was hand-selected to create Let's Move! Newark: Our Power by Newark Mayor Cory Booker, as an extension of First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! Campaign, which Mayor Booker currently serves as the honorary Vice Chair. The program began in October of 2011 with 1,500 high school freshman in five different Newark, NJ high schools competing against each other for the most minutes moved.  Barringer High School has achieved the coveted winning title with an impressive 619,600 minutes moved, earning them a performance by superstar recording artist, Fat Joe, as well as a renewed attitude towards physical activity and well being.

"I'm thrilled to be a part of something so instrumental in an adolescent's development and honored that Fat Joe has donated his talents and time to bring our nation one step closer in the fight against childhood obesity," said Jeff Halevy, creator of Let's Move! Newark: Our Power.

Obstacles associated with obesity hit very close to home for Fat Joe, weighing nearly 460 pounds at his heaviest. In 2000, he began to realize a lifestyle alteration was no longer an option but a necessity after Big Pun and nearly six of his friends, similar to his size, died from heart attacks. Subsequently, he spent much of his time at the gym and changed his eating habits, improving not only his appearance, but his overall health as well, as the diabetic of 16-years was able to rid himself of the disease. Despite his previous weight and health issues, Fat Joe is one of the world's most influential Rap artists. He has sold millions of albums, while masterminding chart topping hits and discovering hot new artists. Additionally, Joe has earned five RIAA gold certifications and two platinum certifications.

"Of all the challenges I have faced in my life, losing weight was probably the most difficult," said hip-hop idol, Fat Joe. "I am so happy to be able to spread the word on the dangers of obesity and join the Let's Move! Initiative with Let's Move! Newark: Our power."

The LM!NOP challenge in Newark will kick-off a national series to combat the overwhelming statistics on childhood obesity. Upon joining the program, each participating student received a MYTRAK, a cutting edge, credit card size, wearable health device, which measures both duration and intensity of physical activity. The 12-week program had students "Going for Green" on their MYTRAK device, turning the device's LED light from red to green, indicating that 60 minutes of physical activity have been achieved. MYTRAK donated 1,500 M2 units to the LM!NOP campaign, which included access to MYTRAK's online suite of health and wellness software that connects users with a team of lifestyle program advisors and community based support. Newark high school students will be rewarded based on their level of activity and in addition to the winners receiving a concert by a top musician, other prizes will include Nets Basketball tickets and Zumba® DVDs to designer apparel from ENYCE and high-end TRX® Suspension Training® equipment.

"It is shocking that 64 percent of Newark's elementary school children are obese or morbidly obese. Some 44 percent of our children aged three to 19 are overweight. If we are going to have a stronger city, we must have healthier children. We have challenged our high school students to live healthier lifestyles through this competition. Let's move toward a stronger and healthier Newark!" said Mayor Booker.

Jeff's expertise Behavioral Health/Fitness background paired with Fat Joe's music influence and the First Lady's Let's Move! Campaign will bring our nation one step closer in the fight against childhood obesity. LM!NOP is powered by MYTRAK and sponsored by ENYCE, a Sean Combs Company, Dr. Jay's, Zumba® Fitness, TRX®, Nets Basketball and The American Council on Exercise. Obsessed! Nick Chavez Amazon Hair Body Building Spray

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

Amazon HairYou know how sometimes beauty products become those spur-of-the-moment purchases that we suddenly can’t live without?  We try them, want to love them, but instantly find out we already have ten of whatever it is we purchased as the results are a ho-hum conventional.

Such is the scenario with Nick Chavez Amazon Hair…well, the suddenly “can’t live without” part.  I bought it on a whim and let it sit for nearly two weeks.  I finally guilted myself into trying it with the typical “I spent the money ($19), I better use it” tactics but happfily found my results were not typical at all…far from actually!

Almost daring me, Amazon Hair claimed “the more you use, the more body you can achieve!”  I have fairly long hair and I decided to test that claim on a day I had no where important to go….you know, just in case I ended up looking like a drowned rat.  After blowing dry, I sprayed a little on the roots of my side part then did some scrunching and finger styling.  Literally instant beauty-queen body.  So then I started spraying it everywhere, from my crown to my roots underneath, only finger styling after each round.  The result?  So much body I ended up having to take it down a notch.  While I’m not in love with the scent (what can I say, I have a sensitive sniffer) this reminds me of the result of scientific crossbreeding between dry shampoo and hairspray.  It’s perfection.  Somehow, my hair still looked like a fresh blowout, just with ca-razy body.

There you go, my newest love.  I’m even willing to share….well, my opinion not my product.  You’ll have to get your own at NickChavezBeverlyHills.com or QVC.com.
