It’s hard to come up with something new when you’re designing a flip-flop.  I meeeean….it’s a flip-flop.  But don’t tell that to pluggz™ the makers of what will no-doubt become your favorite sandal of summer.

Tricia Helfer Chooses Rubin&Chapelle

Tricia Helfer was spotted trying on an array of dresses at Rubin&Chapelle last month, possibly hinting at what she would wear to the Amazing Spider-man premiere.  At the event, later in June, the Criminal Minds star wore Rubin&Chapelle’s ‘Aberdeen Cocktail’ dress in Emerald Green.  Gorgeous!

Jason Wu Hosts “Breakfast with the Boss” for YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund

What I wouldn’t give to pick the brain of one of fashion’s biggest names?!?  For the talented interns of the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund, “Breakfast with the Boss” events this summer allow them to do just that, most recently with none other than the legendary Jason Wu! 

Wu welcomed the group of 16 YMA FSF scholars to The Lambs Club in New York on July 10th for a candid conversation about his early years in the industry.  Answering questions, sharing advice and personal memories, the event was a unique opportunity to see one of fashion’s biggest and best give back to the fashion community, taking an interest in the next generation of designers. 

Wu was the recipient of the Future of Fashion Award at the 2012 YMA FSF Geoffrey Beene National Scholarship Awards Dinner in January. 

The YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund (FSF) is a national not‐for‐profit association consisting of influential members of the fashion community, dedicated to promoting education of the fashion, arts and business by granting scholarships to talented students and facilitating internships, mentorships and career guidance.

Seventeen Magazine and My First Taste of Neon

Speaking of neon (see previous post), whenever I see the bright hue, my mind goes back to my pre-pubescent days in the late 80’s when I subscribed to my first magazine…Seventeen!  I’ll always remember this cover!  Please tell me someone else out there does as well???

YMA FSF Holds “Breakfast with the Boss” Events this Summer

How lucky are these YMA interns as they also get to participate in YMA FSF “Breakfast with the Boss” events being held this summer in NYC.  During these intimate breakfasts, interns are invited into the offices or showrooms of top fashion names for an opportunity to meet and learn from industry leaders.

Last month, the group dined with Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs of the fab Cushnie et Ochs.  The ladies opened their showroom to the 12 YMA FSF interns, taking the time to answer questions and share advice and personal memories of when they were just starting out.  Such an awww moment…it’s always great to see industry leaders giving back to the fashion community!

DIY Low-Cal and Organic Drink Options

We all know that alcohol isn’t the “healthiest” of choices.  But, if you’re going to drink, why not choose wisely with one of these recipes from Erica Lancelotti, owner of BarCandy, a luxury event staffing agency based in NYC.  Enjoy!

Cyrstal Champagne

1 oz. Kettle One Vodka
1 on-the-go sugar free white cran-peach crystal light packet
Pellegrino

Take 1 oz. Kettle One Vodka and add Crystal Light On-The-Go packet and shake in shaker with ice.  Add mixture strained into champagne glass.  Add Pellegrino to top of champagne glass.  Garnish with zest of lemon and serve a low calorie Bellini like cocktail!  Skimp on the calories not your class!

 

 

Organic Sa-FIRE Gin-Ginger

2 oz. Sapphire Gin
1 oz. St.-Germaine Liquor
4 slices of organic cucumber
4 pieces of organic Ginger
4 small pieces of organic jalapeño
Pure-squeezed light Orange Juice
Half of fresh organic lime

Muddle cucumber,Ginger, jalapeño in shaker.  Add the juice of half of fresh organic lime.  Add ice.  Add sapphire gin, St-Germaine Liquor and 2 splashes of low-calorie orange juice.  Serve over ice in a rocks glass. Keep the heat up in the summer with jalapeño and help your body burn through fat and calories!

Sip on the Jalapeño Infused Shwink-arita!

Summer’s hottest drink ingredient is no doubt jalapeño!  Here is a margarita mash-up, jalapeño included of course, from Patrick Clifton (@PJClifton), Head Shwinker at Shwinkers, the social network for drinkers.  

4 ounces jalapeño-infused tequila (*recipe below)
1 ounces fresh-squeezed juice (blood orange, cuties, any in season)
1 ounce fresh-squeezed lemon juice
1 ounce fresh-squeezed lime juice
2 ounces Triple Sec (Cointreau, Grand Marnier)

CRAFTING THE SHWINK-ARITA:
1. Salt the rim of a margarita glass
… although a hi-ball Glass goes nicely too.
2. Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice.
3. Shake, shake, shake.
4. Strain into said glass.
5. Garnish with a jalapeno-stuffed green olive … or just the jalapeño
slices from your infusion concoction.
To make jalapeño infused tequila:
1. Allow 1 sliced fresh jalapeño pepper, seeds and all, to steep in 1
cup of tequila for 2 hours.
2. Give it a taste to test its strength.
3. Let them soak longer (we've gone the afternoon) or take them out.
4. Strain liquid.
5. Save slices for garnish or trash them.

Beat the Heat with these Homemade Ice Cream Ideas!

I don’t know if you’ve looked at the thermometer lately, but, IT’S HOT!!!  One of our favorite ways to cool off is definitely with fresh homemade ice cream.  And with these recipes that include Coffee-mate Natural Bliss, there’s no time like the present to really enjoy National Ice Cream Month (that’s right…just in case we needed another reason to eat ice cream this July)!

"No Ice Cream Maker Needed" Berry Ice Cream

3 cups chopped mixed frozen berries and/or fruit
1/2 cup all natural Coffee-mate Natural Bliss Low-fat Vanilla
1/4 cup fat free milk

Place berries, Coffee-mate and milk in food processor; cover. Pulse until smooth. Serve immediately or spoon into a freezer safe container, cover and freeze for later enjoyment.

 

 

Fresh Mango, Coconut & Lime Ice Cream

1 pound (about 3 cups) fresh mango slices
3/4 cup refrigerated coconut milk
1/2 cup all natural Coffee-mate Natural Bliss Sweet Cream
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 lime, juiced
Pinch sea salt

Place mango, coconut milk, Coffee-mate, sugar, lime juice and sea salt in food processor container; cover. Process until smooth. Transfer to a container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Spoon mixture into ice cream maker and freeze according to manufacturer’s directions. Serve immediately or transfer mixture to covered container and freeze to enjoy later.

Ready or Not…Skin is Playing Peek-a-Boo!
